Nettare in West Town is one of the very few restaurants I've been to in Chicago that can do both breakfast and dinner incredibly well. When I walked into the restaurant at night, it's dimly lit, candles burning, and exactly what I would want for a dinner ambiance. When I walked back in the next morning, it captured exactly the ambiance I would want for breakfast: bright, natural light, greenery, and the smell of fresh coffee brewing.
Nettare's menu highlights and celebrates local and regional Midwestern / Great Lakes-area ingredients, and has a very creative spin on all of the dishes.

The Giardiniera Martini: for those of you who know me well, you know a dirty martini is my drink of choice, so when I saw there was a Giardiniera martini on the menu, I had to give it a try. I was honestly a little hesitant the flavor would be too strong for me, but it was absolutely delicious and incredibly balanced.
White Fish Nuggets: the nuggets were the perfect amount of crispy on the outside with buttery white fish on the inside. The sauce that came on the side was a great pairing.
Bread and Lamb Meatballs: the bread and the lamb meatballs came out at the same time, and we were really glad that they did because we used the bread to dip into the vibrant sauce that the meatballs came with. This was an unintentional good order pairing.
Beets: this beet salad was so refreshing and the best way to break up our appetizers and main courses. The hazelnut vin gave the dish a great flavor, while still having it be a fresh bite. I also loved the marinated feta mixed in.
Steak Au Poivre: sometimes sauces can over power steaks, so I'm always curious to try steak dishes with sauces and see how the flavors work together. The au poivre with the steak was so tasty and not at all overwhelming. We poured the au poivre over the creamy, mashed potatoes and it was well worth it.
The Burger: the burger is a featured item on Nettare's "late-night menu" after 9:00pm. The burger is relatively small and the bun is fluffy, and light. Overall, a great burger.
Breakfast Sandwich & Latte Flights: breakfast at Nettare was a dream. The breakfast sandwich comes with a jalapeño jam and the classic fluffy eggs. The breakfast sandwich usually comes on milk bread, but the bread wasn't ready yet so we ended up getting their homemade rye bread. I really enjoyed the sandwich on the rye bread. The latte flights were a great way to try different flavors! I loved it.
The Apple Pop-Tart: I'm not sure if this is the correct name for this pastry at Nettare. I saw the chefs preparing this when we walked in and knew we had to give it a try. Not only does it look beautiful, it tasted incredible.
When you walk through the front doors of Nettare, you’re greeted by a cozy coffee bar and wine shop. When you step into the back, it feels like an entirely different world. I think that perfectly captures how effortlessly Nettare does both breakfast and dinner so well.
